Introduction

Our nation's military is committed to serve the nation and defend our freedom.  In some cases soldiers have given their life in the fight.  This project is an opportunity for YOU to give something back to those who give their all.

Solano County 4-H youth and the Army National Guard have partnered to develop the Operation 4-HEROES project. When completed, the 1/2 acre memorial park will honor the service and sacrifices of all of the Fallen Soldiers who’ve served with the 49th Military Police Brigade, California Army National Guard during the Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom wars, up to and including those currently serving. The park will feature a memorial grotto, podium and assembly area, exercise course, landscaping, barbeque area and community garden. It will provide a gathering place for future military events and Family Days for current military personnel and their families.

To date, we have gained major support in the areas of surveying (Peter Lynch) and plan design (Peter Larimer, MTW Architectural Design), and fabrication of the memorial statue and steel trellis for the memorial grotto.  We have also received three grants which have funded the construction of six large redwood planter boxes for the garden and purchased the decorative masonry for the memorial grotto.  A local business has donated $5,000. We have received numerous smaller donations in the form of materials, labor and funds. A current list of sponsors can be found on the sponsorship page.

Currently we are working to obtain donations for the construction of the park from individuals and businesses throughout Solano County and beyond. Key needs are in the areas of providing labor to build forms & place concrete. But we are also in need of other types of labor and materials such as concrete material, decomposed granite, earthwork, exercise station equipment, and masonry labor. If you know of someone that can help, please contact us.

We are also looking for youth (and their parents) to make additional contacts (businesses and individuals) to request donations of materials, labor and $$$.  We have drafted a "speech" to get the kids started.  We also have posted a brochure, materials list, drawings, renderings, donor letter, donor commitment form and other items to make the work easier.

Please use the left navigation bar to locate the letters, lists and forms. A link to the Brochure for fundraising is at the bottom of this page.

If you are interested in helping, contact Deb Galway, Volunteer Project Manager at 707.455.8211 or grdndctr@solanowireless.com

Remember, this is a tremendous learning opportunity for the youth and it also benefits soldiers that fight for our country and their families.  4-HEROES NEEDS YOU!

Construction is planned to begin in May 2012 and completion is expected during the summer of 2013.
