The overall goal of the California Adult Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP) is to provide nutrition education instruction to Food Stamp recipients, applicants and eligible low-income families in order to:

  • Improve self-sufficiency
  • Improve food shopping skills
  • Improve cooking and food preparation skills
  • Improve fruit and vegetable consumption
  • Improve dietary well-being, calcium consumption, fiber, low-fat practices
  • Improve infant and child feeding practices
  • Improve food safety and food sanitation skills
  • Increase physical activity

The program is administered by the University of California, Davis Campus, implemented by UC Cooperative Extension offices and funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through an interagency agreement with the California Department of Socail Services (CDSS).
